1st XI vs Portsmouth 1st XI

A frustrating afternoon for Bashley’s 1st XI as they fell to a 62-run defeat against Portsmouth CC, bowled out for 98 chasing a DLS revised target of 161 from 33 overs. Portsmouth had posted 177 all out, with Ben Duggan top-scoring with a patient 52 and Harry Gadd contributing a resolute 46 lower down the order. Bashley’s bowlers worked hard throughout, with Jack Stearman the standout performer taking 4 wickets for just 23 runs, well supported by Cameron Basey’s 3-29.

However, Bashley’s batting collapse proved the story of the day. Siraj Ali Zaidi was unplayable, ripping through the top order to finish with a stunning 5-22 from 10 overs, leaving Bashley reeling at 4-3 inside the first few overs. Patrick Lewis offered some resistance with 18 and Cameron Basey and Alvin Cameron showed fight in an unbroken ninth-wicket stand to finish on 17 and 14 not out respectively, but the damage had already been done.

A difficult result for Bashley’s 1st XI. There will be plenty to work on ahead of the next fixture, though Stearman’s bowling display was a real bright spot on an otherwise tough afternoon.

2nd XI vs Old Basing 1st XI

A match that never had the chance to reach a conclusion, as Bashley’s chase was abandoned after just 3 overs with the score at 12/0. Old Basing had posted an imposing 298/4 from their 50 overs, built around an unbeaten 117 from Ben Ungaretti and a destructive 76 not out from Varch Taneja, with John-Paul Nash also contributing a quickfire 86. Ross Grierson and Nrupadh Mahesh were the pick of Bashley’s bowlers, each claiming 2 wickets, but it was a tough day in the field against a strong Old Basing batting lineup. No points for either side.

3rd XI vs Burley 1st XI

Bashley’s 3rd XI posted an impressive 267/2 from their 45 overs before the match was abandoned, leaving what would have been an imposing target unchallenged. L Stubbington was the cornerstone of the innings with an unbeaten 86, while C Vaughan played a brilliant cameo of 78 off just 56 balls to accelerate the scoring in the middle overs. T Deacon gave the innings a solid start with 32 at the top, and K Nash chipped in with a brisk 18 not out to close things out. A shame the match couldn’t reach a conclusion — on that batting display, Bashley would have been strong favourites. No points for either side.

4th XI vs Bransgore 1st XI

Bashley’s 4th XI suffered a heavy defeat against Bransgore CC, bowled out for 92 chasing a DLS revised target of 176. Bransgore had posted a solid 209/8, built around a fluent 79 from Chay Fox and 59 from Ben Vincent, the pair putting on a crucial partnership through the middle overs. Will Hayward and Simon Bellamy were bright spots for Bashley with the ball, taking 2 wickets each in economical spells.

Bashley’s chase fell apart early, with the top order collapsing to 39-5 inside the first 15 overs. Matthew Donaldson was the chief destroyer with 3-16, while John Goodchild chipped in with 2-13 to leave Bashley in deep trouble. Will Hayward offered the most resistance with a fighting 28, but it wasn’t enough as Bashley were restricted to 92/8 — well short of their target. A tough afternoon for the 4th XI, with the batting performance the main area to address going forward.
