1st XI vs South Wilts 1st XI

A tough afternoon for Bashley’s 1st XI as they were beaten convincingly by South Wilts CC, who posted an imposing 289/4 from their 50 overs. James Degg was the standout performer with a superb 135 from 148 balls, anchoring the innings throughout. He was well supported by Joshua Chippendale, who struck 58, and a late flurry from Tom Cheater (32 off 26) to push South Wilts well beyond 250. Alvin Cameron was Bashley’s best with the ball, claiming 2 wickets, but it was a difficult day in the field with 16 wides proving costly.

Chasing 290, Bashley never really threatened the target. The top order fell away cheaply with the side slipping to 95-6, leaving Louis Prichard to provide the brightest innings of the reply with a gutsy 45 before Archie Fairfax-Ross wrapped up the tail, finishing with 3 wickets. George Wilson contributed a steady 27 but Bashley were bowled out for 166, well short of what was required.

A difficult result for the 1st XI — South Wilts were simply too strong on the day, and Bashley will be looking to bounce back quickly.

2nd XI vs Portsmouth 2nd XI

A dominant performance from Bashley’s 2nd XI as they cruised to a 9-wicket victory over Portsmouth CC, wrapping up the chase with plenty of overs to spare. Portsmouth chose to bat first but were bowled out for 134, with Ben De Laszlo’s unbeaten 52 the only real resistance. Xavier Deacon was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, while Jack Allan also claimed 3 and Phil Morris tidied up the tail with 2 wickets in just 4.3 overs.

The chase was equally straightforward. Alex Bourne led the way with a confident 54 before falling to Ethan Randell, and Phanee Valluri finished unbeaten on 45 to see Bashley home alongside James Turner (12*). The target was reached in just 23.3 overs with 9 wickets in hand — a thoroughly convincing team display from the 2nd XI.

3rd XI vs Redlynch & Hale 1st XI

A heartbreaking finish for Bashley’s 3rd XI, falling just 2 runs short in a nail-biting contest against Redlynch & Hale CC. Bashley posted 184 all out, with Kevin Nash the standout batter — top-scoring with a patient 54, almost carrying the innings after the middle order wobbled. Kris Laurent provided a typically explosive cameo, smashing 18 off just 7 balls, but Bashley will feel they left a few runs out there after a top-order collapse left them rebuilding for much of the innings.

In reply, Redlynch & Hale were anchored brilliantly by Ian Tanner, who batted throughout the chase for an unbeaten 83. Jomy Jose was the pick of Bashley’s bowlers with 2-24 from 9 controlled overs, and Kris Laurent chipped in with a wicket too, but with Tanner standing firm Redlynch always had the edge. Harvey Boardman’s 26 provided the crucial late support, and Redlynch reached 186/6 with 2 balls to spare to seal a tense 4-wicket win.

A real gutting result for the 3rd XI — on another day that total may well have been enough. Plenty of heart shown throughout, and a performance to build on.

4th XI vs Dorset Indians 1st XI

Bashley’s 4th XI fell to a 59-run defeat against Dorset Indians, despite a solid bowling effort restricting the visitors to 179/9. Gajendra Devpura was the thorn in Bashley’s side, anchoring the Dorset Indians innings with 83 before falling late on. Will Hayward and Daniel Manning were the pick of the bowlers, both returning excellent figures of 2-13 and 2-9 respectively from their combined 14 overs.

Chasing 180, Bashley’s batting never got going. Rahul Choudhary was devastating with the ball, taking 4-15 to rip through the top order and leave Bashley in early trouble at 12-3. Ben Challis (27) and Josh Bellamy (26) offered the most resistance and put on a recovery partnership, but once both fell in quick succession the lower order had too much to do. Bashley were bowled out for 120, with Daniel Manning finishing unbeaten on a gutsy 10 at the death.

A frustrating result for the 4th XI — the bowling was commendable but the batting let them down on the day. A performance to reflect on ahead of next week.
