Under 9 Hornets Match Reports
New Milton under 9’s 229-3 v Bashley (Rydal) under 9’s Hornets 245-3
New Forest Cricket League Colts U9 Cup Qtr Final
New Milton won the toss and decided to bat. The New Milton openers of J Jowett and Hussey found the bowling of Harris and Logsdon difficult to score against. The second pair Nurse (10) and Davies faired slightly better against the bowling of Burton and Edmunds. New Milton’s Rowsell and W Jowett also found the accurate bowling of Lewis and Lavis difficult to score against. However, the final pair of Ogbourne and Norton were more positive as runs started to flow. But just as the pair looked as though they would post a reasonable score Baxendale took two wickets in the final over’s to restrict the New Milton score to 229.
The Bashley reply started slowly as Lewis and Pardoe found the New Milton bowling attack challenging. Harris and Logsdon were the second pair to come to the wicket to find the New Milton bowling attack equally as miserly. By the half way point the reply had only reached 215. The Bashley third pair of Lavis and Baxendale was able to get on top of the New Milton bowling and by the end of their four overs had taken to score on to 231. Bashley’s Burton and Edmunds were the final pair to the wicket and with a controlled performance as requested by their team, saw out the last four over’s to take the win with a final total of 245.
The Bashley Man of the Match goes to Baxendale for taking 2 wickets at the end of the New Milton innings.
Bashley (Rydal) under 9’s Bees 189-8 v Bashley (Rydal) under 9’s Hornets 253-1
Last Friday’s match saw the Bashley Bees entertain the Bashley Hornets. The Bees decided to Bat first after winning the toss. Carter and Lister opened the batting against Lewis and Logsden but they found scoring difficult against some very accurate bowling. Woolfrey and Taylor found the going slightly easier against Lavis and Robertsee however by the end of the eighth over four wickets had fallen. White and Titcombe were the third pair to face up against the Hornets bowlers Burton and Baxendale. Unfortunately only three runs were scored as a further two wickets fell. The final pairing of McCarthy and Hughes were also unable to get on top of the bowling as Edmunds, Robertsee and Burton completed the overs taking a further two wickets, leaving the Bees on a total of 189.
The Hornets response started as slowly as the Bees innings as Lewis and Pardoe found the bowling of Carter, Harris, Taylor and Hughes difficult to get away. Baxendale and Lavis were able to move the scoring on as they found the bowling slightly easier and by the eighth over the score had moved on to 217. Robertsee and Logsden also found the Bees attack difficult, but a resolute approach ensured wickets didn’t fall. The final pairing of Burton (19) and Edmunds found the bowling of Lister, Titcombe, White and Woolfrey more to their liking as the runs started to flow. The Hornets finished on 253. Man of the Match this week was Burton for an economical bowling display and some superb batting.
OTs & Romsey 243-3 v. Bashley (Rydal) Hornets 265-2 on 23 May 2008
New Forest Cricket League Colts U9
Bashley Hornets won the toss and confident after their first two victories sent OT’s and Romsey into bat. Harris and Logsdon opened the bowling in a confident style. Although their opponents were the strongest they had faced so far this season they only conceded one run to the bat and took a vital first wicket. The second OT’s pairing continued to be a challenge for Pardoe and Carter, however by the end of the 8th over Bashley had restricted the opposition to a score of 218. Edmunds and Burton were brought into the attack for the third OT’s pairing and although wickets were not forthcoming they kept the score down to 225. Robbertse and the returning Harris found it hard work against the final OT’s and Romsey pair of Tulk (10) and Mills as they worked the ball around the outfield with confidence. Lewis had another assured performance behind the stumps for Bashley, only conceding 2 extras towards OT’s & Romsey’s final total of 243.
The Bashley Hornets opening pair of Lewis and Pardoe started the run chase in a confident mood taking the score on to 219. Harris and Carter were next up and proved just as effective with some quick singles taking the score to 238. The third pair of Robbertse and Logsdon found it hard going against a more accurate bowling attack but still pushed the score past the OT’s and Romsey total. The final pairing of Burton (12) and Edmunds arrived at the wicket knowing the game was there to be won. Some clever quick singles pushed the total up to a final score of 265. Man of the match this week was Tom Harris for his opening spell of bowling taking a wicket and only conceding one run.
Bashley (Rydal) Hornets 278-2 v Redlynch & Hale 202-6 on 16 May 2008
New Forest Cricket League Colts U9
Fresh from last week’s success Bashley Hornets felt confident to put Redlynch & Hale into bat under an imposing sky. This proved to be a good decision as the Redlynch & Hale batsmen found it difficult to score against an accurate partnership of Harris and Logsdon who took a wicket a piece and only conceded 3 runs in the process. Although further wickets didn’t come to the bowling of Pardoe and Carter the bowling was tight, only allowing the Redlynch & Hale team to get to 204 by the halfway point of their innings. Three wickets fell in the next four over’s as Edmunds had an inspired triple wicket maiden, while Robertsee kept the shell shocked batsmen routed to their crease. The Redlynch & Hale innings came to an end at 202 with Burton picking up another wicket during another accurate spell of bowling. Throughout the Redlynch & Hale innings the fielding was good lead by another fine display of wicket keeping by Lewis.
The Bashley Hornets innings opened with another assured display by Lewis and Pardoe taking several quick singles. Harris (10) and Carter came to the wicket with a more direct approach and took the score on to 232 for the loss of only 2 wickets. The third pairing of Robertsee and Logsdon carefully stroked the ball around the ground taking advantage of the space in the outfield to good effect. At this point the final pairing of Burton (24) and Edmunds (8) was able to dispatch the ball to all parts of the ground knowing that the game was won. Man of the Match was Edmunds for an all-round spell of bowling, fielding and batting!
Whilst the midges and mosquitoes munched on the mums and dads watching with anticipation and pride, a quintessential evening of fun and enjoyment was had by all.
Totton & Eling 190 v Bashley (Rydal) Hornets 271 on 9 May 2008
New Forest Cricket League Colts U9
For the first match of the season Bashley Hornets travelled to Totton & Eling. After being put into bat the opening pair of Lewis and Pardoe started well. The second pair of Harris and Carter continued the battle with some well aimed shots around the ground. Logsdon and Robertsee kept up the steady momentum and by the end of the third pairing, Bashley had only lost 3 wickets with the total on 229. The final pair of Edmunds(16) and Burton(21) arrived at the wicket with a determined approach. A further 42 runs were added in the last 4 overs as the Totton team had to retrieve the ball from the boundary on many occasions.
Totton and Eling’s innings started slowly with only Woodcock(13) providing any resistance as the Bashley bowlers kept things tight. Wickets were taken by Harris, Logsdon, Pardoe and Carter. But Man of the Match Burton confirmed the result with a 4 wicket haul including a hat-trick in his first over.
Bashley (Rydal) Under 9 Hornets (296-3) v. Pylewell Park Under 9 (211-5)
Friendly Saturday 3 June 2006
Bashley (Rydal) Under 9 Hornets team entertained Pylewell Park Under 9 at the BCG in the Club’s inaugural game at this age group last Saturday.
It is said that there is something pleasantly soporific about watching young colts play cricket in glorious baking hot sunshine, but there was nothing to suggest that Bashley’s budding young cricketers would allow the scorers or spectators to doze off in the way they tackled Pylewell’s bowling. On the contrary, there was everything to suggest that they would be enthralled from the very first ball. Sleepy eyed spectators marvelled at the young talented team as it amassed a total of 296-3 in its allotted 16 overs. Four of the team of eight reached double figures with Francis Meredith and Tom Boon outstanding with 12 no and 15 no respectively. Other significant contributions came from Louis King-Holford (13no) and skipper Sammy Laurent (10 no). Connor O’Brien, Oli Dowding, Abraham Lock, and Sam Scarratt also regularly hit the bad ball to the boundary markers.
In reply the young Pylewell side struggled against the determined and accurate Bashley (Rydal) bowling loosing 5 wickets on the way to what was a highly satisfactory 211. O’Brien’s one handed catch behind the stumps in the first over set the scene and Oli Dowding’s one wicket for two runs off three overs was remarkable for its consistent accuracy in one so young. Pylewell youngsters nevertheless deserved credit for sticking to the task with the fourth pair of Scriven and Bird in particular adding 12 runs at the end.
Whether there is a cricketer destined for a larger stage remains to be seen, but this was undoubtedly an inspiring start to cricket careers. Spectators looking for a Saturday morning snooze in the sun would have been disappointed. Most left refreshed by the quality of play for an afternoon nap.
