South Wilts 139 all out v. Bashley 74 all out

Having been inserted on a damp wicket at Bemerton the home side would have been pleased to reach 45 before Andy Neal trapped Draper lbw.Neal (2-31) then induced an inside edge by Morton to reduce S.Wilts to 58 for 2.Max Waller returned from leg spin duty with Somerset to dismiss Able with a first ball long-hop and then bowled the dangerous Hibberd in an excellent ten over spell which yielded only 16 runs for his two wickets. At 84 for 4 the game was evenly balanced until veteran non-spinner Neil Taylor was introduced into the attack. With a canny use of flight and guile he conned out three unsuspecting batsmen, two to catches in the deep by Chris Jones and one stinging return catch to take 3 for 21.Kevin Nash (2-29) returned to mop up the tail and then run out the last batsman with a direct hit as the innings closed at 139.

The Bashley reply started promisingly, allbeit with a fair bit of playing and missing on a seamer friendly wicket, reaching 23 before Neil Thurgood (17) played a loose drive at Aussie quickie Branston and was bowled. The score had advanced to 29 when Chris Jones elected to leave a ball that bowled him and then Dan Friedman (yorked first ball) and Neal (adjudged lbw) were all dismissed in the same over from Branston.Skipper Andy Sexton and Waller added 34 before Sexton's patience was exhausted and he holed out to mid-off for a hard fought 26.In the next over Waller smacked a full toss to deep mid-wicket to see the visitors in disarray at 65 for 6.Paul Cass was then undone by Hayward's arm ball on the same score and the same bowler induced errors from Mike West and Matt King as the innings subsided to a paltry 74 all out in the 36th over.

All in all a poor start for an undercooked Bashley side who will need to raise their game several notches to compete with a youthful but impressive looking Hampshire Academy side this weekend.
