This week Bashley (Rydal) V played away to Burley II’s. On a notoriously high scoring pitch, and on a very warm afternoon, Bashley won the toss and elected to bat, posting a competitive score of 225 for 7 after 42 overs. Max Clark (30) and Marcus Lewis (84) put on 105 for the first wicket with Will Syms (29) and Toby Mills (23 no) pushing the total above 200. However even with this demanding total to chase, Burley openers of J. Brown (116) and P. Stacey (60) started strongly putting on a partnership of 130 for the first wicket. At 187 for 2 in the 27th over and with Bashley in trouble, Chloe Ann Anderson was asked to bowl and took 2 quick wickets. This piece of inspirational bowling caused a panic in the Burley batting line up with 4 more wickets falling for 5 runs and Bashley had a sniff of victory with Burley at 219 for 8. Daniel Hart bowled straight and fast, with his second spell of 5.1 overs, 4 wickets for 15 runs being his best of the season. Unfortunately we were probably 25 runs short of the needed target and Burley came out victorious, winning by 2 wickets in a very good spirited game of cricket.
