Bashley 4s travelled to Fawley 2s under the new leadership of experienced campaigner RWE Paul. Winning the toss and bowling first on a slow wicket (and even slower outfield), Bashley made an economical start with ball through Kris Laurent and Nick Clarke, but found wickets hard to come by. Fawley reached drinks at 20 overs for the loss of no wicket, in a good position to push on. However, excellent bowling from young spinners Sam Presland (2-20) and Toby Mills (1-15), plus three run outs, saw Fawley’s innings stutter to 96-7 off their 40 overs.

To Bashley’s good fortune, the Bank Holiday sunshine has dried out the previously slow and wet boundary. This allowed Matt Wedge to make a quick fire start with the bat before being bowled. This brought Will Taylor to the crease to join ex-skipper Luke Stubbington. The pair batted patiently through to Bashley’s target of 97 for the loss of no further wickets. Luke Stubbington was named Man of the Match for his unbeaten 45 and 2 catches in the field. Bashley’s 4th team host Brockenhurst this weekend at the BCG.
