Bashley (Rydal) II 121 all out
Purbrook 122 for 9

Bashley’s unbeaten run came to an end at Purbrook but not without a fight. Having been inserted on hastily prepared wicket due to heavy rain during the week they were soon in trouble at 46 for 3 with only James Turner (11) managing to survive for any length of time. Sam Kennett (22) played with some freedom before being bowled by Mengham (5 for 20) and three more quick wickets followed to leave Bashley on 68 for 7. Once again Sam Stroud chose the aggressive route and hit an unbeaten 47 from 68 balls including 4 sixes and two fours as the innings closed on 121.

Stroud and Sean Read quickly reduced the home side to 25 for 3 in reply with the aid of a superb catch by stand – in keeper Hattingh and with Alex Turner and Simon Morris (1 for 17) both picking up wickets and the score at 58 for 5 the game was evenly poised. Mengham (18) then joined opener Lee in a match winning stand of 48 in 13 overs before he was bowled by Stroud (3 for 28) and then when Read (3 for 17) bowled Cox the home side needed just 4 runs with two wickets left. Alex Turner (2 for 17) then trapped Amis in front with two to win before Lee (43 no from 117 balls) fittingly hit the winning run to seal a nervy one wicket win for the home side. Bashley will reflect on the 29 wides they bowled as the difference between victory and defeat in this low scoring game.
