Bashley (Rydal) II 266 for 6
Fareham & Crofton 231 for 8

Bashley won the toss and choose to bat first in the heat but lost three early wickets before skipper Patrick Lewis joined the in-form James Turner to take the score to 84 before Turner was dismissed for 38 from 57 balls. Arno Hattingh arrived at the crease in a positive frame of mind and soon started finding the boundary rope with regularity. Lewis played the responsible anchor role and manoeuvred the ball around as the two added 108 before Lewis was stumped for 52 from 90 balls. Hattingh continued to up the tempo and eventually brought up his first Southern League century off the last ball of the innings to remain unbeaten on 100 from 89 balls including 13 fours and a six as the innings closed on an imposing 266 for 6.

Arno Hattingh – 100 not out

The visitors progressed steadily on a superb batting strip against the opening Bashley attack but were restricted in scoring too freely by an accurate spell from part time spinner Sam Kennett (1 for 38 off 10 overs). Neil Taylor (1 for 49) and George Wilson kept things further under control and with the aid of two direct hit run outs from Alex Turner and man of the match Hattingh it was left to Sam Stroud (2 for 39) and Sean Read (2 for 42) to close out the game as Fareham closed on 231 for 8 to get the home side back on the winning track following last week’s surprise defeat.
